The Christian Formation and Education Commission is made up of the following persons:
Mr. Stanley Allen
Mrs. Linda Beagle
Mr. Marvin Beagle
Mr. William Bliss
Mrs. Laureen Clarke, Sunday School Director
Mrs. Katy Geradine
Mrs. Joy James Williams, Director
This Commission was created by the Rector in 2005, and Joy James Williams has served as Director since that time. It was created to research, and suggest to the Rector and Vestry, programs which the Commission thought would deepen and broaden our lives in God. The Commission is concerned not only that the parish grow numerically, but also spiritually. The Commission has the responsibility to suggest programs for all age groups – both adults and children.
It meets as is necessary, usually at least once every two months.
We have successfully brought major programs like FAITH ALIVE and ALPHA to the parish. We have also suggested all the Lent programs, Summer Movie Nights, Advent Retreats, educational trips including trips to the Holy Land, the Amazing Love Healing Ministry, speakers from near and far. For the remainder of this year, Lauren Losson will be the Advent Retreat leader on December 7; the Sunday School, the ECW, and the Bible study group will be responsible for the readings regarding the symbolism of the four Advent candles, and the youth group will present a program on Christmas Eve at the six o’clock service. Bible study is always offered throughout the year, and all are welcome.
The Commission has not advised the path that should be taken with the youth program, but have researched curricula and recommended the current curricula now used by the Sunday School.
In view of the fact that Saint James is a church with an English speaking and Spanish speaking congregation, the Commission needs the participation of members from the Hispanic congregation.
